Project

Snowball is a member of our Test Group and has been used specifically for carefully planned genetic test breedings within our breeding programme.

His well-documented genetic background makes him particularly valuable for this role. Snowball is homozygous Agouti (A/A), homozygous Full Colour (C/C), carries Pink Eye (P/p) and Russian Blue, is Roan, and is free from English Blue.

His C/C status is especially valuable for our genetic testing. As Snowball does not carry any Colourpoint alleles, he can be used in selected test breedings without introducing additional Siamese, Himalayan or other Colourpoint factors through his side of the pairing. This makes him a particularly useful and genetically well-defined test partner.

At the same time, his Pink Eye carrier status (P/p), Russian Blue carrier status, Roan, and confirmed absence of English Blue are well documented and can therefore be taken into account when planning and evaluating specific genetic test breedings.

Snowball is also part of our deliberately small Roan test line. Roan itself is not a long-term breeding goal within our programme, but it can serve as a valuable genetic tool in carefully selected test breedings.

Snowball has already sired the ABYSS, BOREALIS and CELESTIAL litters. In the CELESTIAL litter, the appearance of Amber offspring provided further confirmation of his Pink Eye carrier status.

For the time being, Snowball has completed his planned role within our breeding programme. He currently lives with a guardian home, but remains part of our Test Group and can be used again if a future genetic question makes his particular genetic background valuable.

His role is not to establish a separate long-term colour line. Instead, his strength lies in being a well-documented genetic test animal who can help us answer specific questions within other lines when needed.

Any future breeding with Snowball will therefore only be considered when there is a clear genetic purpose for which his known genetic background can provide meaningful information.

Onyx is an important part of our Burmese & Siam breeding project. He originates from Switzerland and is phenotypically a Black Irish, while carrying several genetic traits that make him particularly interesting for our long-term breeding programme.

One of the first major questions was whether Onyx had inherited the Burmese gene from his father. As Burmese can remain phenotypically hidden in a full-coloured animal, this could not be determined from his appearance alone.

His first carefully planned test breeding resulted in the JUNIPER litter, born on August 7, 2026. This litter provided the answer: Onyx is Bu/bu, making him genetically a “hidden” Burmese.

His Colourpoint background can now also be defined more precisely. Onyx is C/ch and therefore carries the Himalayan allele, while his Burmese genetics remain hidden due to his full-coloured phenotype.

This has answered one of the most important questions surrounding Onyx, but his genetic profile is still far from completely resolved.

Several targeted test breedings are therefore planned for 2027 to investigate his remaining genetic traits step by step. Particular attention will be given to his D-Locus, Russian Blue locus, as well as his P- and R-Loci.

Two different test breedings are planned to investigate his English Blue and Russian Blue genetics.

Bonny is free from Russian Blue but carries English Blue. If blue offspring are produced from this pairing, it would indicate that Onyx also carries English Blue.

A second test breeding is planned with Chanell. Chanell originates from a pure Russian Blue bloodline and is herself Russian Blue. If blue offspring are produced from this pairing, it would strongly suggest that Onyx also carries Russian Blue. However, Chanell’s own English Blue status will need to be taken into account when interpreting the final results.

The pairing with Chanell may also provide additional information about Onyx’s P- and/or R-Locus. Which of these questions can ultimately be answered through this litter will depend on which of Chanell’s own genetic traits have been clearly established by that time.

Both pairings are deliberately planned, as their combined results should provide a much clearer picture of Onyx’s Blue genetics and potentially also his Red- & Pink-Eye genetics.

In addition, we want to clearly resolve the remaining question surrounding Onyx’s Roan status. A further targeted test breeding is planned for this purpose, with Solene or Nerina currently among the possible females being considered.

These test breedings are not intended simply to produce as many offspring from Onyx as possible. Their purpose is to answer specific genetic questions as clearly as possible and gradually build a comprehensive and reliably documented genetic profile for him.

Only once Onyx’s genetic background has been clarified and documented as thoroughly and reliably as possible will the next stage begin.

For the next generation of our Burmese & Siam project, Onyx will be deliberately paired with a female whose genetic background has also been investigated and documented as thoroughly as possible. In this way, we aim to avoid carrying unnecessary unknown factors forward and instead establish a genetically traceable and well-documented foundation for the next generation.

The female selected for this future pairing will only be chosen once the results of the planned test breedings are available and we can evaluate the further development of our breeding programme.

As with all of our breeding projects, health, temperament, genetic diversity and a thorough understanding of genetics remain our highest priorities. Only on this foundation will we decide which combination should form the next step in our long-term breeding programme.
